Set in an abandoned, derelict house, Hello? is a glimpse into the mind of a schizophrenic man battling with decisions regarding his new found life without the voices in his head.
Mental illness touches a number of lives in New Zealand, either with people suffering from a mental illness or family and friends being affected while trying to help their loved one. Hello? provides insight into the mind of a person suffering with schizophrenia to help others understand the internal battle, while also assisting those with a mental illness receive validation that these are common feelings and are okay to express.
Cut to the Dog will begin production of ‘Hello?’ on 2nd February 2014. We are thrilled to announce that Bret Saunders has signed on to ‘Hello?’ in the role of ‘Ray’.
Hello? by Tasha Sharp
Hello is set in an abandoned, derelict house, and is a glimpse into the mind of a mentally ill man battling with decisions regarding his new found life without the voices in his head.
Mental illness affects thousands of New Zealanders, including myself and I wanted to write something that would help others with mental illnesses realise their feelings are valid and to help those taking care of family members and friends with mental illnesses to gain a unique perspective into the minds of their loved ones.
I wanted to also bring mental illness into the light to show that there is still a stigma associated with mental illness which needs to be addressed. Many who live with mental illness feel shame and isolation at some point in their lives, preventing them from either seeking help or expressing themselves. I wanted to be part of the solution to this problem by exposing my own journey.
Throughout my life I have had the privilege to know many people with a variety of mental illnesses who have taught and guided me through some rather troubling times in my life. I have written this for them.
